3vrDistracting myself from whatever my life is right now with rampant moa behavior. i wouldnt call this a ~guide~ in any way because im no expert and it has no substance so it's more just recapping and general thoughts and complete disorganized rambling. *disclaimer this is completely unedited disclaimer*
Okay so through my slowdive into txt content (all of to-do, pretty much every stage or radio performance i can find, most interview-format videos, some weekly idols) I have just been so fixated on Soobin... he is just terribly interesting to me lol.
So first off: predebut stuff. this will also be touched on later.
Soobin is the only txt member that didn't join bighit after initially being streetcasted and/or chased down by an agent in some way. he sent a email interview (vid of him dancing) which is endlessly charming to me, and put down his phone number incorrectly so he went 2 months thinking he basically got rejected when in reality bighit just couldn't find him. lol. but due to trying to track him down for months bighit was like "okay we need you to audition THIS WEEK"?? so he went and auditioned in person, and brought his friend along because he didn't know how to navigate the subway(?!?!). because of the short notice and lack of prep time he was super nervous and thought he did badly and didnt even properly say goodbye before leaving and ate like 5 ice creams to comfort himself. and then he got in. haha
This entire story is sooo funny to me like soobin was about to or just turned 16(intl age) when he sent his audition so i have to imagine 16 year soobin dragging his friend along to his audition because he doesnt know how the subways worked. SOOBINNNN (crying emoji crying emoji heart emoji). And then messing up his lines and exiting awkwardly and eating a ton of ice cream to cope??? and then TELLING US ALL OF THIS YEARS LATER? My god
uhhh idk what to title this part we'll go with uhh Personality
His personality and mannerisms are (obvs) some of the things i find most interesting about Soobin - he's sort of quiet and far more introverted than the other members but he also... just... overshares. he overshares incessantly. as a trainee, though, he was very closed off and he's talked about how he doesn't really let people come close to him (he was talking about trainee days but said it in present tense?) as a debuted idol, however, with a group he was part of a lineup with for 2 years predebut, he sort of wears his heart on his sleeve (which helps with his leader role, the members talk a lot about how he looks out for them + their feelings and hes generally considered to be a very chill leader which makes sense due to his very chill mannerisms) and he thrives in those idol member-to-member heart to heart things, and in txts case itll be most of the group trying to joke around to avoid having to be Heartfelt in front of a camera while soobin will immediately be incredibly honest eye contact and everything while everyone just stares like oh okay i guess one of us is taking this seriously. (to-do ep 53)
It's hard to mention txt/soobin without mentioning whole-group game dynamics...its always very funny because theyre godawful at every game. it does not help that beomgyu almost never understands the rules. typically, one of them will find a way to blatantly cheat and/or harass the producers into letting the group have multiple tries/just give them prizes anyway, ane Soobin is usually the first (if not Yeonjun) to be like Ok guys lets actually just try it.... sorry producers.... but also he himself suggests the cheating pretty often too so Lol. including one time where he suggested moving an object out of the camera's sight and then looked up to realized a producer was staring directly at him with a camera (to-do i think ep 15).
I also think it's cute how unashamed Soobin is of his interests... like his bebe rexha obsession is very very well documented and it's sooo funny like that is HIS pop girl. also him talking nonstop about his pet hedgehog (choi odi). he got odi in april, started posting about him in june, and updates us on the hedgehog everywhere and all the time... he posted once that odi got a checkup and reported that he's healthy but has a "bad attitude" LMFAO. we know he played league predebut and would apparently (i must find more info on this) accidentally use league terms in vlives and such. when i begin my vlive deepdive i may come back and update this. idk. also he tried to teach hueningkai how to play which is so funny to me like introducing ur normal bff to ur personal brainrot. also he's played with bts seokjin?!? like in 2021?!?!
not to bounce back to soobin leaderisms but i think its sooo cute when he really shines as like... particularly attentive... like when soobin told taehyun he was interviewing taemin as soon as he found out bc taehyun loves taemin... or when taehyun guest mc'd to interview taemin with soobin and soobin and taemin (and the scriptwriters) conspired to give taehyun a signed taemin album midinterview and taehyun was like WAHHHHH!!!!! YOU DIDNT TELL ME ABOUT THIS!!!! *affronted look directed @ soobin* and the other members talk about how like even if they bicker with soobin (i.e. beomgyu) he sort of drags them out of their shell emotionally which is so funny. like U are not immune to soobin being incredibly heartfelt all the time.
ok adding this section in while midway through my conclusion: ahhh SKILLS
Sooo txt has literally zero official positions outside of leader (Soobin. as we know) but its also generally sort of accepted that yeonjun would be labeled main dancer and taehyun would be labeled main vocal if they did positions like that. soobin trained for almost exactly 3 years and i think it shows... hes always very capable of pretty much any part he gets including having to do the extremely high falsetto in the fairy of shampoo chorus not once but THREE times (any other member who did the chorus only did it once) AND the bridge?!? which was like an evil decision but he pulled it off!!! and also like. he's tall. he's at LEAST 6'1 (185cm) (but i think he might be taller) but he pulls off their stupidly complex choreo with ease... unlike some other tall idols that just kind of fumble around and stick out like a sore thumb coughcoughJOHNNYcough.
I cant tell if he blends in better because the other members are also pretty tall (hyuka being almost as tall as him now?!) but i'd like to believe he's just a genuinely good dancer -- i tried to look up txt dance rankings for outside opinions and besides yeonjun being the best there's really no consensus LOLOL. i also think its sooo cute when txt gets "harder" concepts like puma/frost/ikily because soobin goes hard in the choreo but then his face is still like awwww squishy even when he does the typical dark concept expressions. he doesnt get as into the theatrics/expressions as yeonjun or hueningkai (because shyguy perhaps) but he does try! points for that! i love him! go soobin go soobin.
there's no crazy rap parts in txt songs usually but when there is it's usually yeonjun, but sometimes the other members get little subrapper parts. soobin usually does not do these. I think this is fair. we can't have everything.
I've managed to go this entire post without discussing soobin and hueningkai's mutual obsession with each other so i guess i'll discuss it now.
sooo theyve been attached at the hip since trainee days. soobin wasnt rlly friends with many trainees (he didn't even care to rlly get to know anybody until the debut lineup was confirmed LOL energy conserving king) he was rlly just friends with kai. like hyuka joined after soobin was already a trainee and soobin was (apparently) just like okay! that will be my one friend.
this one clip from a vlive that i find sooo funny and insightful is soobin saying (quoting from subtitles) "predebut i wasn't close to anyone and i didn't want to be close to anyone either, i thought i was fine as long as there's hueningkai" and hyuka is just like smiling and nodding smugly next to him. wonderful.
and post-debut it seemed sort of onesided for a time because as stated previously soobin #shy and hyuka was a very small hyperactive clingy maknae but now its like. horribly terribly publicly mutual. always saying they belong to each other and sappy shit like that. idk i just think leader+youngest friendships r soooo cute and heartwarming. plus watching kai grow up and be more idk uhh deliberate and upfront with feelings (outside of *just* fanservice or acting up for cameras) when he was far more closed off before has been so fun. i loveee their dynamic it so silly and over the top sometimes because like idol_isms but like they genuinely care for each other a lot (heart emoji crying emoji) and are incredibly clingy as a result
ALSO i wanna talk about soobin and yeonjun briefly because leader+oldest so like. of course. yeonjun is, on principle, Loud and Unabashed, and soobin is Shy and Easily Embarrassed, which leads to extremely funny interactions largely due to yeonjun constantly appearing in soobins space to tease him and soobin being like ahhhhhhhh stoppppp but not actually doing anything. as the oldest yeonjun is also a bit of a confidant for soobin as well which is saur cute to me. like yeah soobin is leader but yeonjun is still hyung aww.
okay gonna try to wrap this up now because im rapidly approaching 1k words (addendum: added skills section and other stuff and now it's well over 1.5k. oops) and ive been rambling here on and off for hours and its 1:30am but. I just wanted to share ♡ ♡ SOOBIN ♡ ♡ like he isn't even my mainpick but i just luv him...
